The process...
We were given the task of creating a swede of a film of our personal choice in small groups. As a group we chose to do ET which is a sci-fi film that would allow us to experiment with our creativity due to the fact that the main character is non human. After we had put the swede that we filmed together using imove, the task was to present a slide show which contained lots of different aspects into what went into the process. These included production, planning, props, actors and stars, technologies, filming, editing, post production, marketing, distribution and exhibition. To create this within the group different parts were allocated to each person to think about in detail the way in which it was created. In class we had one hour to film our swede so with this in mind we all prepared the props and actors who would star prior to this event. By filming the footage on an iphone 7 made this task practical and easy enough to carry out in the time duration allocated however, we all as a group filmed various parts of the swede and took pictures to place into the social media sites so we then had as much footage as possible. On the arrival back to class, we all reflected on the footage we had captured and sent it all directly to one member of the group to edit in imove on her imac. Therefore, we learnt that the internet is a very helpful component in regards to sending key information to other members of the production. The day after we concentrated more so on the marketing aspect of things. Once the swede had been uploaded to YouTube it made is easier to promote the link and get the word around about what we had been working on. Personally, I took up the task of creating an Instagram account dedicated to ET, uploading images on the regular to keep a constant engagement with the target audience. We also as a group formed Facebook live streams, a Twitter hashtag #canETfindhiswayhome? As well as this, a film poster that would be placed on the side of a bus or even in the cinema. The next step of the task was then as previously mentioned, the concentration on putting into words the process that we went through to place into a powerpoint. To carry this out we did our section of the presentation and emailed it to each other in order to place all of the parts together.
What the process has taught me...
I have learnt that the internet is a huge part of the production and distribution of a film or swede, it allows the process to happen quickly as well as being of a good standard. The whole process only went over a few days and it managed to gain 78 views and counting on YouTube. Furthermore, the marketing was very successful in terms of engagement due to the fact that synergy was used. The majority of the target audience are heavy users of social media so by taking advantage of the synergy across all of the platforms was a very good and helpful idea. Thirdly, in terms of the swede we learnt that it was important not to revel too much information as to what the outcome of main events are during the movie, as otherwise the audience will feel as though they do not need to take the time to go and watch the movie. Finally, another learning point is how the camera shots used within a swede can really make a considerable difference. By capturing the emotions of the characters and their approach to the main events will allow the swede to look entertaining and of a high standard to the audience.

•In producing, distributing and marketing your own swede, you have become involved in the film chain and will have exchanged your product through YouTube to reach your intended audience.
•In the exam, you will be required to write about the film chain and the process of production, distribution, marketing and exchange.
•In order to help you prepare for this, you will now reflect on your own experience of the film chain.
•
•How important was the use of digital technology in all stages of the production of your swede? Refer to key terms and phrases in your answer:
•You are a PROSUMER (the consumer of a film and the producer of the swede that refers to it)
•You have used different DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY to become PRODUCERS
•You have the TECHNOLOGY to DISTRIBUTE because of the internet/YouTube
•You did this OUTSIDE the Film Industry (you are an INDEPENDENT producer)
•You have used CONVERGENT technologies
•You have reached an AUDIENCE
•You have created a SYNERGOUS campaign
You might have used CROSS MEDIA CONVERGENCE
The advertising that my case study film 'Me Before You' uses social media to engage with the target audience. This is effective because the target audience are teenagers who therefore, have easy access to social media platforms. Also, it is not too expensive in terms of advertising and gets to job done very well. Instagram is very heavily used to post images from behind the scenes that create a discussion for them to talk about. The social media platform has 600 million active users every month. Along with Instagram there is a banner on the verified page that has the suggested followers listed on, these being the famous stars within the movie. Twitter was also and still is used, creating a hashtag for people to be aware of the film and the updates that go along with it, the profile photos and headers also being related to scenes from the film so that the page is therefore, easily recognised. Facebook was another used platform, leaving links to other pages that can offer more inside information. Facebook also allowed a very heavy use of discussion for the audience so they can talk about the plot and which characters performed the best. The links that were evident were sites such as 'Rotten Tomatoes' and 'The chance to win free merch.' Rotten Tomatoes is a critic site that allows people to read a review of the film so that they can get an idea of what other people thought of the movie. In addition, the competition links engage the audience due to the fact that it is offering incentives in the form of things to win. At the same time it is promoting the film and branding as then more and more people will be aware of it. Above, I have included a screenshot of the Instagram page, it is evident that they have also included short videos from parts of the film.
